After a decade-long hiatus, ambient minimalists Austere return with a new album that steps far beyond the intentional boundaries of their previous work.
An imagined soundtrack for a sci-fi film set in the distant future but shown in classic theaters of yesteryear, it portraits a galaxy where genetically enhanced twins, augmented designers and modern samouraï dwell among the populace as ersatz picnickers explore the ghost city of Pripyat, mechanized astronauts that predate humankind watch over distant shores on a remote planet and a lone individual stands atop a hill in a far corner of the universe, contemplating absolutely nothing.
Inspired by classic synth-based soundtracks such as Thief, Sorcerer, Blade Runner, Solaris, Escape from New York, Manhunter, A Clockwork Orange, To Live and Die in L.A. and many others, the duo offers their own always-odd, always-unique take on the genre. Bombastic in parts; quietly meditative in others, it's sure to delight lovers of 1970-80s soundtracks as well as synthesizer & ambient fans.
